CRS DUES AND APPLICATION PROCESS

The CRS is a non-profit organization of radiologists who are in private practice in the State of California. A radiologist is defined as one skilled in the diagnostic therapeutic use of x- rays and other forms of radiant energy.

CRS has approximately 1900 members throughout California. The categories of membership are as follows:
Regular $150.00 Annual Dues
Physicist $50.00 Annual Dues - Doctors with a Ph.D.
Residents No Charge for Two Years or Once Licensed
(which ever comes first)

The CRS is a Chapter of the American College of Radiology and all of our new members come through them.

The membership process is as follows:

  • The member applying must first be a member of the California local component society, i.e., Los Angeles County Radiological Society, San Francisco Society, etc.
  • Then the member sends all of his membership material to the American College of Radiology.
  • The ACR then forwards the Chapter application to us and we publish the Doctor in our Bulletin for comment from our membership.
  • If no negative comments are received regarding the pending new member, the membership is immediately accepted.
  • The ACR then publishes the new member in their Bulletin.
  • After a few weeks, CRS receives the member's first year's dues from the ACR. They are sent a welcome letter and begin receiving correspondence from CRS.

CRS membership dues renewals are mailed to all the members every December.

BENEFITS OF MEMBERSHIP IN CRS

CRS was created to bring radiologists together and give them a voice in government, allowing them to relate problems and issues to legislative and regulatory policy makers. Members work together in a regulatory environment designed to encompass all areas having a potential impact on radiology in California, such as:

  • state legislation and regulations
  • insurance law
  • workers compensation
  • Medi-Cal reimbursement
  • working with Medicare carriers
CRS members and their concerns are represented at the State Capitol in Sacramento. Some of the more recent issues have been:
  • Telemedicine
  • Physician Self-Referral Prohibition
  • Hospital Employment of Physicians
The CRS is a chapter of the American College of Radiology (ACR) and serves as a focal point for interaction with other local component societies.

Annual Meeting
The CRS Annual Meeting , which takes place in May is a two day event allowing radiologists to earn CME Credits. Topics range from socio-economic and legal issues affecting radiologists to the application of teleradiology. To encourage attendance at this meeting the CRS waves the registration fee for its members.

Resources & Guidance
Many members utilize the CRS as a resource for information and direction on legal and practice issues. We provide references to outside attorneys and consultants for specific member assistance.

Quarterly Newsletter
The CRS Bulletin is a quarterly newsletter designed to keep members abreast of Society activities, events, trends and information. It also provides an excellent, useful, and reliable review of local, state and national legislative activities.
