The California Radiological Society (CRS) is the voice for radiologists and radiation oncologists in Sacramento.
CRS advocacy has made a difference for physicians and patients for decades.Here are just a few examples:
Advancing Radiation Safety
CRS helped shape California's first-in-the-nation requirements for CT dose recording and adverse-event reporting.
These efforts strengthened patient safety and radiation oversight while bringing the expertise of radiologists into the development of California's regulatory framework.
Protecting Access to Breast Imaging
CRS has successfully advocated for policies that expand access to breast imaging, including coverage and reimbursement for digital breast tomosynthesis, appropriate screening mammography, and patient notification regarding dense breast tissue.
CRS also successfully advocated for Medi-Cal to restore screening mammography coverage beginning at age 40 after a proposed change to age 50.
​Protecting Physician-Led Imaging
CRS sponsored California's original self-referral ban for imaging and radiation oncology and has continued to advocate for policies that protect physician-led care and address conflicts of interest in the delivery of imaging services.
CRS has also fought proposals that could undermine appropriate physician oversight of imaging and radiation services.

CRS is headquartered in Sacramento and works throughout the legislative and regulatory process to identify issues that could affect radiology and radiation oncology. Our advocacy efforts include monitoring legislation, analyzing proposed regulations, communicating with policymakers, providing testimony, and working with state agencies and other physician organizations.
CRS members are represented at the State Capitol by a dedicated legislative advocate, giving California radiologists and radiation oncologists a direct voice in the policymaking process.

And the work is substantial. During the 2025–26 legislative session, the CRS Government Affairs Committee reviewed nearly 2,600 introduced bills and identified legislation relevant to healthcare regulation, patient access, and provider oversight. The committee ultimately took official positions on 13 bills.

The CRS Government Affairs Committee helps protect and advance the practice of radiology in California. The committee monitors legislation and regulatory issues, advocates on behalf of radiologists, and works to ensure policymakers understand the impact of healthcare policy on our specialty and our patients.
